You learn why toward the end of the book. The main character’s name is literally Odysseus. This does have a lot of The Odyssey references. Trigger warnings: murder, mention of drugs, talk of alcoholism, child abuse-physical & mental, prostitution (brothel), and the hint at sexual abuse toward minors/children.
